It’s very cut throat doing business on the net. You actually need to learn something new almost everyday and have the tools to make your site better than the rest of the sites you compete with. Everyday more and more people learn about the importance of optimizing the rankings of their websites. If you don’t learn at least some things you’ll fail and that’s not the goal at all, is it?

Search Engine Optimization or SEO is a term used by lots of people in e-commerce. Since 1997 and for the next ten years or so search engines will be the most used tool for finding information on the net. People will continue to use it to find the products or information they need.

A lot of the people using search engines only look at the first page of the results. Some will tell you that if you aren’t on the first page you will never get any traffic. Obviously the higher your ranking the more traffic and getting into the top three in the Search Engines Results Pages or SERPs you will get more traffic and sell more of your product with a top search engine ranking.

Building opt in email lists of email addresses that are highly targeted is one of the smarter things you can do. The term Unlimited Bandwidth has been the topic of many heated discussions between web hosting “experts”, sales people, and web hosting beginners. Almost all web hosting companies offer unlimited bandwidth hosting, so what is it that makes this debatable?

Unlimited, endless, unrestricted, bandwidth?
For starters, there is no such thing as “unlimited” bandwidth, strictly speaking. If there was, all web sites in the world could be run through the same internet backbone connection. Unlimited, in the most formal use of the word, means unlimited, endless, unrestricted, bandwidth.

Is it unethical?
So, the people discussing the use of the term Unlimited Bandwidth often argue that it is unethical to use a term they actually can’t deliver on. I disagree with this argument, as the term is not implied to be read literally.

Web hosts better provide a lot of bandwidth
And that is where a reasonable argument lays. If you are a web host that offers unlimited bandwidth, you better be sure to be able to handle a web site that actually has a respectable amount of traffic. Too many customers of shared hosting have complained about their site being taken down by their web host the minute they actually get any traffic worth talking about. No notice, just wham, down. Other have received a notice, either before or after, but that really doesn’t cut it.

Choose a web host that helps you when your site grows
If you choose a good web host they will go to great lengths to ensure that you are able to host even a large and popular web site on a shared hosting account. That is, if they advertise with unlimited bandwidth.

Good website design comes into play because people will judge you by how your website looks so if you want make money with a website you do need a good design. Your website is a representation of you or your company whether your company exists anywhere but online. The website is your online business just like this one is my website business. When you have a website people can’t see you so that’s why they judge you and your trustworthiness by your website design so it does need to be good.

If you were running a company off of the net would you allow salespeople to be dressed casually or inappropriately? when they are selling to your customers. As with most offline businesses the staff wear professional looking clothes or outfits. Why? Because it tells your customer you are running a professional business. This is a good idea because whether we like it or not, first impressions do matter.

If you are looking for a recurring income system and want lots of traffic then a site with recurring monthly income is the way to go. You can either start your own and earn all the recurring commissions or you can become an affiliate of a site that has a recurring income system and make a little less in recurring monthly income but not have to deal with all the hassles of members if you own your own web site.

The ‘gurus’ are discovering or rediscovering passive income systems and recurring monthly revenue. I’m not to sure where they’ve been for the last 12 years because almost everything I was doing was based on recurring income with an affiliate web site.

I’ve been getting recurring commissions for the last 12 years. Of course that’s selling adult ID’s to adult sites. There was very little in non adult that had recurring monthly billing until recently. Recurring monthly revenue is common on adult sites. There are also non adult sites that have a recurring monthly or even twice monthly or lots of other things that are recurring on a monthly basis. When you find one that sells well for you put it up every where you can and promote it.

Website design choices range from the boring and mundane to shiney, gee-wiz java applets that can make the text literally jump off the page. If you’re just getting into web design, either for a business or for your own personal site, you’re going to want to learn the HTML basics, even if you’re using a PHP editor. Find a tutorial, there are lots of them out there, and learn how to create boarders, add text, manipulate photos, and setup links. Once you’ve figured out how to do these things you can go onto designing your site, either from a pre-made template or from scratch. There is a lot more to learn, and it’s to your advantage to keep learning once you get started. Figure out how to add backgrounds, page dividers, and how to manipulate the text you’ve entered. However, don’t feel the need to get too flashy.

One of the biggest mistakes in website design, both by professional programmers and first-timers, is that programmers try to make their websites too flashy. They include flashing banners and text and animated images. Big intros eat up bandwidth before users even get a chance to find the information they’re looking for. Colored text clashes with colored backgrounds and shimmering headers. Though all of these extras may show off your design chops, they’re going to make your website hard to navigate for users.

So, follow the golden rules of website design. Keep your site simple and easy to navigate. Be sure to link your pages internally; nothing is more frustrating to a user than having to navigate back to the front page every time they want to get to another area of your site. Colors are great, but pick a color scheme and stick with it. Make important content easy to find, and link every single page back to the home page. Follow these rules of thumb and you’ll keep your website from looking like a train wreck, and more people will listen to what you’re trying to tell them.
