As weird as it may sound, it’s just as simple to clean up dog feces off artificial grass as it is if they had gone on natural grass. Simply scoop the feces the best you can from the surface and thoroughly hose down the area. Bacterial will still be there and it will smell, however, this would be the cause with natural sod. Introducing a puppy to dog potty pads can be challenging, but is absolutely worth the effort. As with all puppies, you should confine your pet to a fenced area, with a dog potty pad when you first bring them home. Do not let them become accustomed to having access to the whole house or it will be harder to train them to relieve themselves on dog potty pads in the future. Place a dog potty pad against a wall somewhere near your puppy’s confined area, but not too close. Much like humans, dogs do not like to eat near where they use the bathroom – so try placing the dog potty pad in the opposite corner from their food bowls.

It is important to know when training a puppy with a dog potty pad that a puppy cannot control his muscles until about 12 weeks of age. So consistency with dog potty pads during this time is crucial. Always keep in mind, if your pet is sniffing around nervously more so than usual, it means your pet needs to pee or pooh. It’s time to introduce them to dog potty pads! Immediately grab your pet’s attention and place him on the dog potty pad. Stay with your pet until he or she has done their deed. If they successfully relieved themselves on the dog potty pad praise them throughout the process with positive reinforcement. Also, if your puppy has an accident away from the dog potty pad, make certain to immediately clean up the accident thoroughly so he, or she, does not return to that same spot catching their scent. If you catch your puppy in the act away from the dog potty pad, let him, or her, know that what they did was wrong with a firm tone, but do not punish your puppy.

We recommend taking your puppy to the dog potty pad every morning when your puppy awakens, and two hours after their meals. You can also leave a small towel that has been soaked in their urine under the dog potty pads or put a small amount of your dog’s urine on the dog potty pad in order to attract their senses. You may also use the dog potty pads for the first few months and them train them to go outdoors. You can achieve this by slowly moving the dog potty pad toward their normal exit point. Be sure to always praise your dog’s achievements with the dog potty pads and do not reprimand your pet during training. This can greatly confuse your pet.

I use to have a couple camping water filters at home. We use these filters whenever we go out for some adventures. It works OK but what makes me change to a new one, like the one I have right now, is it weight and size. My old water filters are too heavy and quite bulky. luckily, I changed it to a much better one. It is handy, the weight is roughly 11oz. and it has an anti clogging technology allowing me to have a clean water without any muss and worry that my filter will fail to give me the water that i need. The installation process followed when installing a concrete, brick, or clay paving stone is the most critical component to the integrity and longevity of any paved surface. The interlocking system requires the stones to be set in an interlocking pattern that will allow for slight movement but will be able to lock into each other to resist lateral movements. These systems will not crack during an earthquake or in soil expansion and retraction cycles, unlike poured concrete or asphalt will. The surfaces can be smooth or they can be rough with a weathered look by using a tumbled or distressed style paving stone. Either look will deliver the same structural integrity and will give you a faithful paved surface.

Paving stones have been around for over two thousand years, since the Roman Empire, and have evolved into the various styles and textures that are used in today’s paving stone applications. Originally, the Romans used paving stones to create roads necessary for the growth of the Roman Empire and for military and trade routes. Pioneering the interlocking process, the Romans used a rectangular pave stone made of rock or polygonal pave stones from lava, they used the strongest system that is still being used today, the interlocking paving system.

Today, we use this same interlocking system to construction roads, driveways, walkways, patios, pool decks, and virtually any area that can be paved.

Concrete pave stones are manufactured at minimum compression strength of 8,000 pounds per square inch (psi.), and advancements in manufacturing have improved strength, durability, availability and offer many different styles. Paving stones come in a broad variety colors including solid or blended colors and are available in just as many shapes, sizes and textures.

Paving stones, however, aren’t always concrete. Clay pavers have proven to be just as durable and strong as concrete or natural rock pave stones. Formed and pressed with 400-ton presses and the fired at 2000 degrees, clay pavers can last just as long as concrete pave stones and offer a unique characteristic that concrete cannot offer.

Man has been hunting animals such as deer and buffalo for the purposes of food, clothing and shelter for a very long time. Hunting actually predates the civilized world as we know it today and there are many archaeological discoveries that confirm that hunting history goes back a long ways.

An Asian spearhead has been carbon dated as being over 16,000 years old and there is some evidence that we used larger game as food as much as 2 million years ago. That doesn’t seem likely to me but I suppose it’s not impossible. Archaeologists think it’s the case, tho.

The most likely weapons first used were probably rocks thrown to kill small game with hunting spears coming soon after. Easy to sharpen a long piece of wood and make the point. Also a very effective close in weapon that could bring down large animals.

Bear hunting is becoming a controversial sport and this article is what I consider to be a kind of biased view of bear hunting. OTOH going to the local bakery and getting some of yesterdays donuts and pastries to bait bears with isn’t exactly a good image either. Personally I’d like to see that kind of bear baiting banned.

IMO if you’re going to hunt bears for the thrill of it then get all the thrills you can. Don’t sit 50-100 yards away and shoot some bear eating yesterdays donuts. Be a man, go into the bears domain and hunt for him there. Yeah, I know why a lot of people don’t do that but choose to shoot donut bears instead. Fear, plain and simple. They want to brag they killed a bear but they don’t want to be in danger doing it. Sheesh, man up, go hunt Mr. Bear where he lives and take your chances. Some days you eat the bear but one day the bear will eat you. That’s enough to make donut bear shooters out of most guys.

This is pretty much a no brainer but first you need to figure out what you want to do with your boat. Obviously the primary purpose will be fishing but what kind of fishing. Obviously if you are only going to be trolling you need a different setup than if you are going to always be anchoring and sitting. Even fishing boats have dfferent purposes.

If you want to be a tournament fisherman, which can be quite exciting even in small local tournaments, you should consider a boat with a motor no less than 150 HP and probably shorter than 19 feet. For those of you who plan to fish on deeper water regularly you might find that a 200 HP motor and a boat at least 20 feet long or more will be ideal.

If you don’t plan on doing any tournament fishing but instead want to go after fish like bass, walleyes or crappies you’ll want a smaller boat. Perhaps in the 17-18 foot range with a minimum of 115 HP for the motor. With that boat you can enjoy it on lakes or rivers.

Choosing the motor or system to propel your boat is one of the more important things you will do. Motors weigh a lot and the horsepower will have a lot to do with how happy you are with your boat. If you don’t get a big enough motor it will work twice as hard and your boat performance will be poor.

There are a few different types of motors you can buy. First is an outboard which is very popular on smaller boats and fishing boats. These motors while still heavy are the lightest, have tons of power and are very quiet. They are usually mounted on the transom with bolts or brackets.

Outboards will swivel for easy steering as the prop pushes the stern of the boat. They come in many different sizes from 5 HP to 300 HP and the horsepower will affect how much fuel you use. Just like cars, the smaller the motor the better the mileage. and that’s why choosing the right motor for your boat is so important.

Some seem to think that installing pavestones is a simple process, and many home owners attempt the installations themselves, and it doesn’t always go as planned. A customer had call us about a year and a half ago looking for a pavestone estimate. He was pretty eager to speed up the process, so I went out to his house that afternoon to see what he was looking for. As soon as set sight on his patio I was wandering what was going on. The existing patio was torn out and there were large piles of dirt spotted around. When I rang the doorbell , a young man with a new cast and crutches answered. When I asked what happened to his leg, he simply pointed to the dirt mounds in his patio and said “that happened”. He tried doing the demolition on his patio, getting rready to do the installation himself, and in the process, he got caught in his excavation tracks and broke his leg.
The point of that story is that installing pavestones is not only an art, but it is extremely laborious. standard paving stones are 60mm thick – so you have a total excavation depth of 7.5 inches, minimum. An average 1,100 square foot pavestone installation would require excavation of 26 cubic yards of existing concrete, dirt etc., which would take about 4 dump trucks. You would import 15 cubic yards of base and another 4 yards of sand. Is this still sounding like a weekend project to you? A good pavestone installation (in southern California) requires a sub-base makeup of a minimum of 4 inches compacted Class II road base (or more depending on what the soils) and one inch of washed masonry sand.
Besides the physical demands, skill is also necessary. While it takes only modest skills to cut a stone or lay a simple pavestone pattern, it takes a skilled craftsman to create a flight of steps or banding that meanders through a driveway, patio or walkway. One thing is always for certain, there are many contractors (some licensed and some unlicensed) that bid low and then deliver a poor installation. There is a reason every market has an average price range. There is a goood explanation for this, and it’s because it costs and certain amount to do the job and then a certain amount to pay for other business expenses (overhead). Depending on the overhead you will see some slight variances in price. When you see a thirty to forty percent difference in price something is wrong. You must make sure each contractor is quoting you on the same pavestone, the same installation process, and the same base / sand materials. This often explains dramatic differences in price. Like I said, depending on your expectations of how you want your pavestone installation to look like in the end or how long you want your pavers to hold up against traffic will determine if you should hire a professional installation company, or take on the task yourself.

Sometimes it’s easy to lose your way in an unfamiliar wood. Carrying a compass and maps of the general area that you will be hunting in can help in the event that you get lost. That’s one of the basic hunter survival tips and most people ignore it.

Carry a flashlight with extra batteries in case you get caught out after dark. There are also flashlights on the market now that operate by just a shake, eliminating the need for batteries.

Matches in a waterproof case are essential and a sharp knife is good to have as well. A traditional Bowie or a Swiss Army knife both serves the purpose.

Some granola, candy bars, or dried fruit are a good idea to bring along if you are not skilled at finding food in the wild. Never eat any plants or berries unless you are familiar with what types are poisonous. If you are unsure of the safety of a plant or its fruit, don’t eat it. Risking an illness while stranded in the wild is not preferable to an empty stomach.

The nature friendly hunter’s motto is: Leave the woods the same as when you came or better. Well, minus an animal or two of course. If you are going to be camping overnight, try to disturb as little of the environment as possible. It’s what a good nature friendly hunter would do.

Don’t clear brush unnecessarily. Try to envision your trip as an overnight stay at someone’s home. You are a guest in the habitat of many animals and some you aren’t even aware of.

Always bury your campfire to ensure that it will not reignite and cause a full-blown blaze in the wilderness. Check your fire several times before leaving the area.

Forest fires can be devastating to natural areas for years afterwards. If left to spread out of control, a forest fire not only endangers the lives of animals but the lives of citizens and firefighters as well.

I searched on-line the other day looking for outdoor wicker furniture covers as a way to protect my own patio outdoor furniture, with winter in mind and knowing it will bring with it, cold, rain and snow, I knew at that moment I didn’t want my new setting outside and getting ruined by the elements.

I like a lot of other people have invested in various pieces of outdoor patio furniture, and at first it was only a couple of chairs but this now has grown to include a 10 seater wicker outdoor corner lounge, table and chairs with comfortable cushions and now the nights are cooler I had to have an outdoor heater and of course a BBQ!

In my research I could see that by investing a few dollars on my furniture covers it would not only protect the furniture from the elements it protects it against pets and rodents, mold etc.

Looking at the various types of covers I have found that there are el cheapo furniture covers that will do the job, but the draw back with this type of furniture cover is that not only can you not tie the furniture down securely you may find that the wind will inflate therefore it is not secure. The cheaper material used is usually plastic which will become brittle over a short period of time.

I am not saying to look at buying the dearest covers either but keep in mind the better quality covers have ties or Velcro to enclose the furniture allowing further protection it. The better quality also has a vent like flap to allow air to circulate.

A further hint that I have found, is to ensure before all furniture covers go on that the pieces are thoroughly cleaned before you put it under cover, this way when you whip that cover off at the first sign of spring your furniture will be perfect condition.

Buy Artificial Grass – Installation Tips

The goal of every artificial lawn installation after buying artificial grass is to achieve a long-lasting, functional, and natural looking landscape. Always consider what will be necessary to prepare the area before an installation can begin.

When you plan to buy your artificial grass for installation where Natural sod or soil currently exists it is recommended that you first excavate down to 3 inches below finished grade. Add a durable and porous synthetic fabric for weed prevention then add your base layer (decomposed granite, class II roadbase, or equivalent) – decomposed granite, or DG is preferred for installations requiring a very smooth surface such as a putting green – class II road base is preferred for areas requiring superior compaction. Compact your subbase in no more than 3″ or 4″ lifts – to achieve a firm subgrade. A good rule of thumb is 1 ton of subbase for every 66 Sq Ft of 3″ of base/DG. Finally, add the artificial grass and the appropriate artificial grass infill.

Excavation can include removing sod, soil, problem concrete, asphalt or other existing materials. Always take into consideration the final grade/finished floor lever, use and accessibility to the site prior to starting your artificial grass installation.

When buying your artificial grass for installation on top of concrete or asphalt it is recommended that you install a turf padding to help create a more natural feel and cushion as well as to lesson potential joint impact injuries. In this case proper infill is very important. You can considers a variety of subgrade paddings.

If using this type of turf, the installation must allow for watershed above the artificial grass materials. Also, the subgrade needs to slope appropriately and contour toward the drain heads. Be sure to check with the local cities for codes and restrictions.

If you are buying artificial grass for installation on a crowned lawn – be sure to bring in additional subbase materials and shape the base appropriately during compaction. The hard-edge should still be set after compaction to .5″ to 1″ below your desired finished grade. To provide for additional water run-off where necessary, consider inserting a small channel of drainage rock (a French drain) prior to the addition of base material. When combined with the proper soil stabilizing fabrics, a French drain will allow run-off to fall below the surface and channel without the risk of erosion.

Be sure to use a high quality fabric in your installations. 4-6 oz is a minimum recommendation. Warning – Many “residential” or “retail” weed barrier fabrics do not have the vertical and/or horizontal strength to stand up to the demands of permanent construction projects, UV, high traffic and extreme weather conditions.
