Treatment of Fibromyalgia

The most common symptom amongst fibromyalgia sufferers is chronic pains all over the body and pain in all pressure points in the body. These include the back and front lower parts of the neck, hip joints, elbows and knees. Doctors also draw a relation between psychiatric conditions like anxiety, depression or stress-related conditions with fibromyalgia.

Like other diseases which lack an accepted universal diagnosis, treatment of fibromyalgia aims at managing the symptoms rather than curing the condition. As such, a combination of modern and complementary medicines, as well as behavioral therapy and exercise are all used to relief the intense chronic pains that patients experience.

Artificial Grass Dog Runs and Kennels

As weird as it may sound, it’s just as simple to clean up dog feces off artificial grass as it is if they had gone on natural grass. Simply scoop the feces the best you can from the surface and thoroughly hose down the area. Bacterial will still be there and it will smell, however, this would be the cause with natural sod. So their really isn’t any added inconveniences. It is recommended to spray the artificial grass dog runs with either a soap and water or vinegar and water mixture 3 – 4 times per month, especially if it becomes the regular potty place and/or if kids will be playing on the artificial grass. Some wholesale artificial grass suppliers sell anti-microbial sprays that work wonderfully and are non-toxic, environmentally, kid and pet friendly.

As more and more artificial grass products get introduced to the market, the styles available are increasing dramatically. Most of the artificial grass quality that is offered through legitimate contractors is comparable between the companies. The average product cost is between $2.49 – $3.99 per square foot, and lesser quality products sell for $.85 – $1.99 per square foot. Today, what is often seen specifically in San Diego, and Orange County, are dramatic variances in the installed price. We have seen artificial grass dog runs installed for as low as $5.00 per square foot and some artificial grass dog runs installed for $11.00 per square foot. While there are plenty of reasons for price variances, there are only a few that would justify such a large swing in price. Generally what is found is those installations costing $5.00 use a less thorough installation methodology and typically come with a shorter warranty, if any at all. On the opposite side of the spectrum you have the marketing machines, companies that have hefty advertising budgets and robust operations teams. Amusingly, some these companies hire the $5.00 installation companies as sub-contractors and use a slightly higher grade material and a little more thorough installation process.

The installation method that has proven to be extremely durable in artificial grass dog runs is to use a inch and a half by inch and a half composite anchor board that is installed around the entire perimeter of the project, below grade, with the edges of the artificial grass tucked over and pneumatically stapled and attached to the anchor board. This process paired with a quality infill material and a quality artificial grass product will give your artificial grass dog run enough bind to stand up against wear and tear of even the largest of dogs.

Improve seed propagation with a soil warming cable

Warming the soil makes it much easier to germinate seeds even when the weather is not reliably warm as well as help cuttings to root.

The alternative to a soil warming cable is an electric propogator, this will give you a much smaller area of warmed soil.

Pave Stone Types

The installation process followed when installing a concrete, brick, or clay paving stone is the most critical component to the integrity and longevity of any paved surface. The interlocking system requires the stones to be set in an interlocking pattern that will allow for slight movement but will be able to lock into each other to resist lateral movements. These systems will not crack during an earthquake or in soil expansion and retraction cycles, unlike poured concrete or asphalt will. The surfaces can be smooth or they can be rough with a weathered look by using a tumbled or distressed style paving stone. Either look will deliver the same structural integrity and will give you a faithful paved surface.

Paving stones have been around for over two thousand years, since the Roman Empire, and have evolved into the various styles and textures that are used in today’s paving stone applications. Originally, the Romans used paving stones to create roads necessary for the growth of the Roman Empire and for military and trade routes. Pioneering the interlocking process, the Romans used a rectangular pave stone made of rock or polygonal pave stones from lava, they used the strongest system that is still being used today, the interlocking paving system.

Today, we use this same interlocking system to construction roads, driveways, walkways, patios, pool decks, and virtually any area that can be paved.

Concrete pave stones are manufactured at minimum compression strength of 8,000 pounds per square inch (psi.), and advancements in manufacturing have improved strength, durability, availability and offer many different styles. Paving stones come in a broad variety colors including solid or blended colors and are available in just as many shapes, sizes and textures.

Paving stones, however, aren’t always concrete. Clay pavers have proven to be just as durable and strong as concrete or natural rock pave stones. Formed and pressed with 400-ton presses and the fired at 2000 degrees, clay pavers can last just as long as concrete pave stones and offer a unique characteristic that concrete cannot offer.

What Experts Know About Fish Pond Care

One of the most common questions asked about fish pond care is how often should you change your pond filters? There are no hard and fast rules as to when you should change your pond filters. Remember that different types of fish ponds require different degrees of care. It is therefore up to you to decide when you should change your pond filters. When you feel that your filters are no longer efficient, then, by all means chance them at once.

Lettuce – pretty in your flower beds.

When choosing lettuce, you really are spoilt for choice. I like the texture and taste of Cos type lettuce so I always grow a row or two of them. I start them off by sowing a pinch of seed in a 3 inch pot and when they are large enough to handle, I transplant into rows which are 6 ins apart, leaving 3ins between plants. This means that when they become a bit crowded, I pick alternative plants for salads.

Greenhouses

For people who live in areas without the luxury of consistent weather patterns, it can be tough to grow vegetables or plants during the cold seasons. Bugs and a lack of good soil can also hinder growth, leaving many garden-enthusiasts looking for alternative ways to keep up a healthy crop or two at their leisure. Greenhouses are now the obvious answer to this problem, and have been for a very long time.

When it comes to housing your own plants in a less-than-perfect environment, greenhouses can either be built by oneself or left to contractors and other assorted professionals, but at a cost, though in some ways the cost is worth it for those not handy with tools. But if you want to build it on your own and save the money normally spent on labor, you have the options of doing it from scratch or even buying DIY greenhouse kits found in hardware stores or online.

DIY greenhouse kits sometimes cost an arm and a leg depending on complexity and size, and sometimes building them yourself can get even more complicated. Depending on one’s competency with following directions or how ingenious one is with designing, it might be more cost effective to buy a pre-made greenhouse or have one built for you by a trained professional.

Paving Stones

Paving stones have become a popular way to express your creativity. The stones are made of clay or concrete. Using sand to set the paving stone in instead of cement, this prevents cracking during the mobility process. Paving stones need have freedom of movement in order to stay beautiful looking.

Paving stones come in many different sizes, colors and shapes. This allows you to make a design, which fits your own taste. No two paving stone designs are the same. Imagine designing the one of kind walkway or driveway that stops at your house. Most people have an idea of what they want to design and these stones allow that creative nature to take over.

Take Patio Paving for example. Making a beautiful patio with paving stones will accent any occasion you have outdoors. The different colors will add a touch of elegance to your patio and provides a stable sitting area as well as a cooking area. The best part will be when your guests are very amazed at the uniqueness of your design style.

Pavestone(s) Installation

Some seem to think that installing pavestones is a simple process, and many home owners attempt the installations themselves, and it doesn’t always go as planned. A customer had call us about a year and a half ago looking for a pavestone estimate. He was pretty eager to speed up the process, so I went out to his house that afternoon to see what he was looking for. As soon as set sight on his patio I was wandering what was going on. The existing patio was torn out and there were large piles of dirt spotted around. When I rang the doorbell , a young man with a new cast and crutches answered. When I asked what happened to his leg, he simply pointed to the dirt mounds in his patio and said “that happened”. He tried doing the demolition on his patio, getting rready to do the installation himself, and in the process, he got caught in his excavation tracks and broke his leg.
The point of that story is that installing pavestones is not only an art, but it is extremely laborious. standard paving stones are 60mm thick – so you have a total excavation depth of 7.5 inches, minimum. An average 1,100 square foot pavestone installation would require excavation of 26 cubic yards of existing concrete, dirt etc., which would take about 4 dump trucks. You would import 15 cubic yards of base and another 4 yards of sand. Is this still sounding like a weekend project to you? A good pavestone installation (in southern California) requires a sub-base makeup of a minimum of 4 inches compacted Class II road base (or more depending on what the soils) and one inch of washed masonry sand.
Besides the physical demands, skill is also necessary. While it takes only modest skills to cut a stone or lay a simple pavestone pattern, it takes a skilled craftsman to create a flight of steps or banding that meanders through a driveway, patio or walkway. One thing is always for certain, there are many contractors (some licensed and some unlicensed) that bid low and then deliver a poor installation. There is a reason every market has an average price range. There is a goood explanation for this, and it’s because it costs and certain amount to do the job and then a certain amount to pay for other business expenses (overhead). Depending on the overhead you will see some slight variances in price. When you see a thirty to forty percent difference in price something is wrong. You must make sure each contractor is quoting you on the same pavestone, the same installation process, and the same base / sand materials. This often explains dramatic differences in price. Like I said, depending on your expectations of how you want your pavestone installation to look like in the end or how long you want your pavers to hold up against traffic will determine if you should hire a professional installation company, or take on the task yourself.

The neighborhood stray and an outdoor cat house.

What most of us cat lovers fail to realize is by having an indoor domesticated cat as a pet, one that does spend time outdoors in the back yard and takes the occasional stroll beyond the back yard fence, we attract the attention of the neighborhood stray.

Don’t you think that being a cat lover, we should provide some sort of shelter for these cats while they are on our property. Especially now that it is winter.

An outdoor cat house would give them the warmth and security the do deserve. They also would love to curl up and snooze in a warm place for once.

By providing an insulated cedar wood outdoor cat house in your back yard you can tempt those poor little homeless darlings to keep coming back, and you may never know, they may make your home their home one day

Planning A Backyard Fish Pond Design

When planning backyard fish pond, the homeowner should choose the placement of the plants around the pond very carefully. The plants around the pond should be placed in areas that receive ample sunlight to allow the plants to grow properly. Outdoor Wicker Furniture Covers

I searched on-line the other day looking for outdoor wicker furniture covers as a way to protect my own patio outdoor furniture, with winter in mind and knowing it will bring with it, cold, rain and snow, I knew at that moment I didn’t want my new setting outside and getting ruined by the elements.

I like a lot of other people have invested in various pieces of outdoor patio furniture, and at first it was only a couple of chairs but this now has grown to include a 10 seater wicker outdoor corner lounge, table and chairs with comfortable cushions and now the nights are cooler I had to have an outdoor heater and of course a BBQ!

In my research I could see that by investing a few dollars on my furniture covers it would not only protect the furniture from the elements it protects it against pets and rodents, mold etc.

Looking at the various types of covers I have found that there are el cheapo furniture covers that will do the job, but the draw back with this type of furniture cover is that not only can you not tie the furniture down securely you may find that the wind will inflate therefore it is not secure. The cheaper material used is usually plastic which will become brittle over a short period of time.

I am not saying to look at buying the dearest covers either but keep in mind the better quality covers have ties or Velcro to enclose the furniture allowing further protection it. The better quality also has a vent like flap to allow air to circulate.

A further hint that I have found, is to ensure before all furniture covers go on that the pieces are thoroughly cleaned before you put it under cover, this way when you whip that cover off at the first sign of spring your furniture will be perfect condition.

Buy Artificial Grass – Installation Tips

Buy Artificial Grass – Installation Tips

The goal of every artificial lawn installation after buying artificial grass is to achieve a long-lasting, functional, and natural looking landscape. Always consider what will be necessary to prepare the area before an installation can begin.

When you plan to buy your artificial grass for installation where Natural sod or soil currently exists it is recommended that you first excavate down to 3 inches below finished grade. Add a durable and porous synthetic fabric for weed prevention then add your base layer (decomposed granite, class II roadbase, or equivalent) – decomposed granite, or DG is preferred for installations requiring a very smooth surface such as a putting green – class II road base is preferred for areas requiring superior compaction. Compact your subbase in no more than 3″ or 4″ lifts – to achieve a firm subgrade. A good rule of thumb is 1 ton of subbase for every 66 Sq Ft of 3″ of base/DG. Finally, add the artificial grass and the appropriate artificial grass infill.

Excavation can include removing sod, soil, problem concrete, asphalt or other existing materials. Always take into consideration the final grade/finished floor lever, use and accessibility to the site prior to starting your artificial grass installation.

When buying your artificial grass for installation on top of concrete or asphalt it is recommended that you install a turf padding to help create a more natural feel and cushion as well as to lesson potential joint impact injuries. In this case proper infill is very important. You can considers a variety of subgrade paddings.

If the final grade of your artificial grass installation needs to be level with existing elements such as walkways, driveways or patios – be sure to allow adequate excavation and estimation of base materials to raise the base to .5″ to 1″ below the final grade of the hardscape element.

When buying artificial grass for installation between concrete edgings or in-between flagstones and concrete slabs allow for additional excavation to support water run-off. Several layers of mixed base material may be needed and consider additional drain pipes, catch basins, connectors and drain rock.

You should also be sure to consider drainage – especially on side yards.

During residential construction, homes are developed to have roof-line and ground water run-off to a daylight rain head where watershed will join with other run-off volume. Most artificial grass backings contain drain holes to allow water to percolate through into the ground. Gravity helps with drainage, and eliminates the need for unsightly drain heads on the surface of the turf. Some artificial grass does not included drain holes, and thus, percolates horizontally (examples would include some types of putting green products). If using this type of turf, the installation must allow for watershed above the artificial grass materials. Also, the subgrade needs to slope appropriately and contour toward the drain heads. Be sure to check with the local cities for codes and restrictions.

If you are buying artificial grass for installation on a crowned lawn – be sure to bring in additional subbase materials and shape the base appropriately during compaction. The hard-edge should still be set after compaction to .5″ to 1″ below your desired finished grade. To provide for additional water run-off where necessary, consider inserting a small channel of drainage rock (a French drain) prior to the addition of base material. When combined with the proper soil stabilizing fabrics, a French drain will allow run-off to fall below the surface and channel without the risk of erosion.

Be sure to use a high quality fabric in your installations. 4-6 oz is a minimum recommendation. Warning – Many “residential” or “retail” weed barrier fabrics do not have the vertical and/or horizontal strength to stand up to the demands of permanent construction projects, UV, high traffic and extreme weather conditions.

Energy Management with a Greenhouse Window Opener

When deciding which type of greenhouse window will work best for you, you should consider a model with side vents to control airflow. Natural ventilation can be achieved via side greenhouse window vents that are built into the greenhouse window and can be efficient in reducing temperature and humidity for proper plant growth. There are also some heavy duty greenhouse vent openers available on the market, but they are typically too large for use with a greenhouse window.

If you enjoy growing your own herbs, flowers, and small vegetables, a greenhouse window is a great option, allowing you to do so year-round. You can easily transform most windows into a mini-greenhouse, but kitchen greenhouse windows are the most popular. Greenhouse windows require only a small amount of wall area and can provide a lot of light along with shelf space for plants. A greenhouse window is designed to extend outward from the house, and is a box like structure consisting of a light transmitting top wall sloping downwardly from a rear edge, as well as light transmitting front and side walls. You will want to consider the location for maximum sunlight, and whether you prefer a vinyl or aluminum window.

Selecting The Right Portable Greenhouse Heater

The basic difference between the portable greenhouse heaters that are selected is the cost of the energy source that is used. For example in some communities it may be more expensive to operate electricity, while in some other communities it maybe less or more expensive to utilize natural gas. Therefore, if the individual does not have a preference either one way or the other with the fuel source that they use, they may choose to go the less expensive route.

Before Buying A Portable Garden Greenhouse

There are many portable garden greenhouses on the market today. Some can be significantly expensive while some are very simple in nature and yet function quite nicely as a greenhouse.

First of all it is important to evaluate one’s level of interest. For example if the portable garden greenhouse is to be used as a hobby or allow the children or grandchildren to learn about plants and planting, one may consider a modest type of portable garden greenhouse. However, if one is dedicated to their plants and possibly relies on the product for a living or supplement their food on the table, they may wish to invest in a more expensive portable garden greenhouse.

Generally, the materials that are used in the construction of a greenhouse are either plastic or glass. In addition to providing the necessary nutrients from the sunlight for the plants growth, warmth is allowed to enter into the greenhouse and provide the necessary warmth for plant growth.

Finding the Right Pond Fish for Your Garden

Most homeowners are generally categorized with the second approach and those that are pond fish enthusiast commonly belong to implement the first approach.

Misconceptions You May Get From A Greenhouse Gardening Book

Let’s face it, facts are often swayed and debunked due to new discoveries and studies that show otherwise. A greenhouse gardening book from ten years or twenty years ago may not be as factual as it was then compared to what we know now. This is the very reason why a greenhouse gardening book, or any fact related book for that matter may need to be revised or edited for the purpose of correction.

Many orchids make gardening in your greenhouse worthwhile by blooming for days on end when they have had their share of potting mix and orchid fertilizers. There are specific orchid fertilizers that can help you with gardening in your greenhouse with orchids.

The Need For Aquatic Pond Plants

Some aquatic pond plants serve as shelter for the fish and animals that live in and around the pond. The aquatic pond plant can shield the fish and other animals from the strident rays of the sun and help to keep the water cool. These kinds of plants are usually the floating varieties that stay on the surface of the water, keeping the rays of the sun off it. As a form of shelter, these floating plants can actually cover and entire plant if left uninhibited.
