Nikon Coolpix S60 review and ratings
There is a good chance that the Nikon Coolpix S60 will appeal to the gadget conscious. This is because all the camera’s menu options are controlled through the large 3.5 inch LCD screen. In fact the Coolpix takes touch control further than any other digital camera I have tested as there is not a single button or dial on the back of the camera. Even features such as zoom and flash are controlled by touch.
This camera looks good and you get the impression Nikon have put plenty of thought into the design of the Coolpix S60. It has a fairly standard set of features for a pocket camera. It has 10 megapixels and a 5x optical zoom lens. Other features include image stabilisation.
If the main reason for being attracted to the Nikon Coolpix S60 is the touch controlled screen then there are a small number of cameras available from Sony that are also worth checking out. Like the Coolpix S60 these are small, sleek cameras that will fit into a pocket. The Sony DSC T700 is a good place to start.

Summary: Picture quality is pretty good for a smaller digital camera. The only real drawback I found was a tendency for darker areas to creep into corners of the shot. This is especially noticeable when the zoom lens is not in use. Otherwise the Nikon Coolpix S60 performed well in my tests. It can take a decent close up shot, handles portraits well and as long as you remember to use the camera’s special landscape mode it is able to produce a decent scenic shot as well. When you select a small pocket camera there will always be the occasional compromise when it comes to picture quality, but the Coolpix S60 stands up well to the competition.
