Fuji Finepix S1500 review and ratings

The Fuji Finepix S1500 looks a little different to the latest batch of digital cameras offering 12x optical zoom. The trend has been to move towards a more compact body size and a shape that resembles more stylish, sleeker digital cameras. With the Finepix S15000, Fuji has gone for the more traditional look with the camera designed more along the lines of a cut down Digital SLR, with a good sized grip on front to help you to hold the camera steady.

Tucked away inside the body you will find a set of manual exposure controls. These include aperture priority and shutter priority. As is the norm with this length of lens Fuji has included image stabilisation. Another feature worth mentioning is the ability to zoom in while shooting a movie. The majority of digital cameras allow you to zoom in before shooting, but not while recording is in progress.

Shutter lag times are relatively low and I found the Finepix S1500 quick to respond in most situations.

If you would like to take a look at one of the smaller compact digital cameras offering extra zoom then try taking a look at the Panasonic Lumix DMC TZ7.

Rating: Average / Above Average

On the whole the Fuji Finepix S1500 performed well in my tests. Here and there I would like to have seen the pictures a touch sharper, but this is only likely to be an issue if you are looking to make large sized prints.
