Casio Exilim EX-Z300 review and ratings
The Casio Exilim EX-Z300 is likely to appeal to you more if you like the idea of a digital camera that can take HD quality movies. In my opinion I don’t think I am quite ready to trade in my camcorder for a digital camera.
Aside from the HD quality movies the Exilim EX-Z300 is a middle of the road digital camera. It offers features such as image stabilisation, a good sized 3 inch screen and a wide angle lens. This type of lens comes in useful for snapping wide scenes such as landscapes, groups of people and buildings. Other more gimmicky features include an auto shutter, make up mode and face detection. The auto shutter will automatically fire off a shot if it detects someone smiling. Make up mode can reduce blemishes and help to soften skin to give an impression of better skin. Although face detection can help to produce sharper portraits I have never been able to notice a great deal of difference between the photos I take with it and those I took before it was introduced.
One of the factors I like about the 3 inch screen is the fact Casio give you the option of displaying key menu options on it. This can make it much simpler and also quicker to change settings before taking a photo.
Looking at other similar digital cameras one that comes the closest in terms of features and price tag is the Panasonic DMC FX150. My feeling is that the Panasonic model has the edge when it comes to picture quality.

Summary: Not a bad effort from Casio. I think you will need to be looking for a camera capable of taking HD quality movies in order to be able to justify the price tag.
