Olympus MJU 1040 review and ratings
The Olympus MJU 1040 is a middle ranking, pocket digital camera and is priced accordingly. The first thing I noticed when looking at the MJU 1040 is that it looks more sleek and stylish than any Olympus digital camera I can remember reviewing for a long time.
Part of its attraction comes from the sliding lens cover. I guess this may not be to everyone’s taste, but I think they help with the look of a camera. In this instance the cover is also used to turn the camera on and off.
Inside the camera is a fairly basic set of features. If all you are looking for is an easy to use camera without a lot of fuss and bother then it has all you need and if you do buy a digital camera with lots of extra features then you will be paying for features you will never use.
The lens in this camera is tiny and so there will be occasions when it struggles to capture the perfect photo. Therefore I see this camera as a simple snapshot photo where capturing the moment is more important than creating photographing works of art.
The MJU 1040 has 10 megapixels and a 3x optical zoom lens.
If you are looking for a small digital camera that offers both value for money and good picture quality try taking a look at the Canon IXUS 80 IS. This camera has been around for longer than the MJU 1040, but stands up well in comparison and has the advantage of having its price drop over time.
Rating: Average
The Olympus MJU 1040 offers fair value for money. It is not the very best pocket camera on the market when it comes to picture quality. In fairness this is reflected in the price of the camera and it is therefore aimed at someone who is looking for a simple snapshot digital camera.
