One cannot and should not attempt to talk about baby gifts without talking about the baby shower. It is a day assigned to bless the unborn baby and the mother. The baby shower is supposed to be a women’s affair but everyone is now involved, including the men. It was originated in the late eighteen hundreds, but it’s now very common. If you have a special gift to give, ensure you wait for the special day – the baby shower. In the Jewish tradition you are not expected to get any gift for the baby until the child is born. Well this is not to say that the baby is not expected to be given birth to alive and well, but this is to be sure that there will be no eventualities. However some American Jews do not subscribe to this culture. They do what everybody else does in America.
