Canon IXUS 870 IS review and ratings
The Canon IXUS 870 IS is a smaller compact digital camera. It is just over 23mm wide so it will fit into larger pockets. There is a choice between two colours. These are gold and silver. I like the design of the IXUS 870 IS. It is quite a simple design, but coupled with the way the camera feels in the hand it seems to have a bit of extra quality compared to other cameras.
This is a 10 megapixel model. That should be enough for poster sized prints. If you are feeling at all creative it also gives you scope to crop a photo with an image editing package such as Adobe Photoshop. Even after cropping you should still be able to make a smaller print.
Other cameras in the Canon IXUS range include a viewfinder. The IXUS 870 IS forgoes the viewfinder. Instead Canon has included a 3 inch LCD screen. Image stabilisation has also been built in to help reduce the possibility of blurred pictures caused by camera shake.
The 4x zoom lens has wide angle capabilities. This can help when taking photos of landscape, groups of people and interiors.
The one drawback of the IXUS 870 IS is the price. It is not a cheap digital camera. One camera that may not look quite as cute, but offers better value for money is the Fuji Finepix F60fd.
Rating: Above Average
Summary: You almost get what you pay for with the Canon IXUS 870 IS. Picture quality and build quality are better than you normally find with this type of camera. It does cost a premium price though and if you are prepared to accept picture quality that is not quite so sharp you can find better value elsewhere.
