Bonsai Trees Philosophy Information
There are various kinds of bonsai. These are the slant, formal upright, informal upright, raft, literati, cascade, semi-cascade and the forest/group. The pots themselves are part of the art as well, chosen to compliment the shape and color of the tree itself. Mosses and rocks are often added to the base for aesthetic appeal.Â
But the bonsai tree is much more than a mere agricultural or horticultural experiment. Zen Buddhism transformed the bonsai and gave it a philosophy that continues to this day. According to the Japanese, the bonsai represents the usually oppositional forces of nature and man working together to create divine harmony. Thus, each bonsai is the representation of the individual’s understanding and manifestation of this inner harmony.
