The sale of unregulated and unmonitored contact lenses is a reckless endangerment of the ocular health of the public. U.S. eye care professionals have confirmed that wearing unregulated decorative or other non-prescription contact lenses have caused serious eye complications, leading to efforts in early 2005 to have the U.S. Congress ban such sales.
